What Teachable costs over 36 months

Every figure below is Teachable's own published rate, annualised and multiplied out over 36 months at 1 account. Where Teachable publishes no rate, the row says so instead of guessing.

Plan Charged List rate At 1 account 36 months
Starter Flat, per month $29/mo $29/mo $1,044
Builder Flat, per month $69/mo $69/mo $2,484
Growth Flat, per month $139/mo $139/mo $5,004
Custom Flat, per month Custom quote, not published n/a Custom quote, not published

Billing Teachable monthly instead of annually costs $39 a month rather than $29, a difference of $360 across the 36 months. That is the single largest lever on this page that costs nothing to pull.

1 tier is sales-led (Custom), so it carries no figure here.

Renewal sensitivity: three scenarios, not a forecast

Nobody knows what Teachable charges in 2029. The table below is arithmetic on a rate you choose, not a prediction: it compounds the year-one total forward at 0%, 5% and 10% so you can see how much of the 36-month figure is exposed to a renewal you have not negotiated yet.

If the rateYear 1Year 2Year 3Three-year total
Held flat $348 $348 $348 $1,044
5% a year $348 $365.40 $383.67 $1,097.07
10% a year $348 $382.80 $421.08 $1,151.88

Scenario arithmetic on Teachable's own published year-one figure. Uplift rates are illustrative inputs, not observed or predicted rates.

Each line, what triggers it, and how to avoid it

Tax, FX and payment processing

Stated on the pricing page: Starter has 7.5% transaction fee

What triggers it. This lands on the invoice, not the price page. Teachable quotes $29 a month for 1 account net of it, so the number you approve in a business case and the number finance pays reconcile only after tax and card handling are added.

How to avoid it. Register the correct billing entity before the first invoice, and check whether Teachable bills from a local entity. Fixing it after signature usually means credit notes, not refunds.

Paid add-on or module

Stated on the pricing page: US card processing 2.9% + 30¢

What triggers it. Triggered by needing the capability, and then charged every cycle afterwards. Add-ons attach to the Starter subscription permanently, so this is a recurring line the $1,044 figure does not contain.

How to avoid it. Bundle the add-ons into the initial negotiation. They are discounted far more readily at first signature than when added in year two as a mid-term upsell.

Paid add-on or module

Stated on the pricing page: International card 3.9% + 30¢

What triggers it. A separately-priced module. It stacks on top of the plan rate for as long as you keep it, and on a per-unit add-on it also scales with the 1 account basis.

How to avoid it. Review attached add-ons at each anniversary. Modules bought for one project keep billing long after the project ends.

Paid add-on or module

Stated on the pricing page: Chargeback fee $15

What triggers it. Fires on adoption, not on signature. Teachable prices the platform at $29 a month for 1 account and the pieces separately, which is why quoted comparisons between tools so rarely describe the same scope.

How to avoid it. Build the shortlist at like-for-like scope. Price Teachable with the add-ons you actually need against rivals with theirs, or the $1,044 comparison is measuring different products.

Contract and commitment terms

Derived from the published tiers: Teachable Starter is $39 a month billed monthly against $29 on annual commitment, a $360 difference over 36 months at 1 account.

What triggers it. Fires when you choose term over flexibility. It is the trade the $1,044 figure quietly assumes: cash and commitment now, in exchange for the lower rate.

How to avoid it. Negotiate the exit, not just the entry: termination for convenience, a downgrade path, and what happens to prepaid money. Those clauses cost nothing at signature and everything later.

Unpublished pricing

Derived from the published tiers: 1 of 4 Teachable tiers publish no price (Custom). No total on this page includes them.

What triggers it. Triggered by nothing you do. This is simply a number Teachable does not publish. Every unpublished component is a hole in the $1,044 figure, which is built only from rates the vendor states.

How to avoid it. Ask for it in writing, itemised, before shortlisting. A vendor that will not put a number on a component at evaluation stage rarely gets more forthcoming after signature.

Feature gated to a higher tier

Derived from the published tiers: Moving from Starter to Growth costs a further $3,960 over 36 months at 1 account, which is 4.8x the entry total.

What triggers it. Triggered by needing one feature, not by growing. This is the mechanism that moves teams off Starter: a single requirement that only exists further up the ladder, at a rate that applies to every unit you buy.

How to avoid it. Test the gated feature during evaluation rather than trusting the comparison table. Capability names travel further than capabilities do.

How that compares across hr, payroll, and hiring software

The median hr, payroll, and hiring software tool we track charges $75 a month at its cheapest paid tier. Re-expressed on the same basis as the figure above, 1 account for 36 months, that median works out at $2,700.

Teachable lands $1,656 below that figure, 61.3%, measured across 34 tracked tools. A gap either way is a question, not a verdict: cheaper often means fewer included seats or a thinner support tier, and the fee lines below are where that difference usually reappears.

What changes at enterprise scale

Everything above prices the self-serve ladder. Enterprise sits off that ladder, which means the $1,044 figure is a floor for a large deployment rather than an estimate of one.

Teachable for Business adds dedicated success and bulk seat pricing starting at $6,000/year for 250 users.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Teachable cost over three years?

$1,044 on Starter at 1 account, billed annually, which is $29 a month held flat for 36 months. That figure covers the subscription only.

Does paying Teachable annually save money?

Yes. Monthly billing costs $39 a month against $29 on annual commitment, a difference of $360 over 36 months at 1 account.

What does Teachable charge for outside the plan price?

7 lines: tax, fx and payment processing, paid add-on or module, paid add-on or module, paid add-on or module and 3 more. Each one is broken down above with what triggers it and how to avoid it.

Could Teachable cost more at renewal?

Possibly, and nothing on this page predicts it. If the rate held flat the three-year total would be $1,044; at a hypothetical 10% a year it would be $1,151.88. Cap the uplift in the contract and the question stops mattering.

Is Teachable expensive for hr, payroll, and hiring software?

Over 36 months it lands $1,656 below the $2,700 category median, measured across 34 tracked tools on the same basis.
