NordLayer true cost: the 36-month total
NordLayer costs $2,304 over 36 months on Lite at 10 users, billed annually, before 7 cost lines that sit outside the plan price.
What NordLayer costs over 36 months
Every figure below is NordLayer's own published rate, annualised and multiplied out over 36 months at 10 users. Where NordLayer publishes no rate, the row says so instead of guessing.
Billing NordLayer monthly instead of annually costs $80 a month rather than $64, a difference of $576 across the 36 months. That is the single largest lever on this page that costs nothing to pull.
The same plan at four team sizes
NordLayer charges per user, so the 36-month figure scales linearly with headcount. These are Lite totals, on annual billing, with no fees added.
Renewal sensitivity: three scenarios, not a forecast
Nobody knows what NordLayer charges in 2029. The table below is arithmetic on a rate you choose, not a prediction: it compounds the year-one total forward at 0%, 5% and 10% so you can see how much of the 36-month figure is exposed to a renewal you have not negotiated yet.
One of these rows is measured rather than assumed. The last NordLayer list-price move we recorded was a cut of 14.29% on Enterprise, dated 9 June 2026. The bottom row replays that same rate across three years so you can see what a repeat would do.
Scenario arithmetic on NordLayer's own published year-one figure. Uplift rates are illustrative inputs, not observed or predicted rates.
What sits outside the NordLayer list price
7 lines, sorted by when in the contract lifecycle they land. Lines marked as derived are arithmetic on NordLayer's own tier table rather than vendor prose.
Each line, what triggers it, and how to avoid it
Feature gated to a higher tier
Stated on the pricing page: Dedicated IP Server: $40/month required for Core and Premium
What triggers it. A gate rather than a fee. It costs nothing until the day it costs a full tier upgrade, and it invalidates the $2,304 figure above the moment it does.
How to avoid it. Ask whether the capability can be bought as an add-on to Lite. Vendors frequently unbundle when the alternative is losing the deal.
Paid add-on or module
Stated on the pricing page: User Provisioning and Device Posture: add-on on Lite
What triggers it. A separately-priced module. It stacks on top of the plan rate for as long as you keep it, and on a per-unit add-on it also scales with the 10 users basis.
How to avoid it. Bundle the add-ons into the initial negotiation. They are discounted far more readily at first signature than when added in year two as a mid-term upsell.
Paid add-on or module
Stated on the pricing page: CrowdStrike Falcon Go: $2/device/month
What triggers it. Triggered by needing the capability, and then charged every cycle afterwards. Add-ons attach to the Lite subscription permanently, so this is a recurring line the $2,304 figure does not contain.
How to avoid it. Build the shortlist at like-for-like scope. Price NordLayer with the add-ons you actually need against rivals with theirs, or the $2,304 comparison is measuring different products.
Paid add-on or module
Stated on the pricing page: CrowdStrike Falcon Enterprise: $9/device/month
What triggers it. Fires on adoption, not on signature. NordLayer prices the platform at $64 a month for 10 users and the pieces separately, which is why quoted comparisons between tools so rarely describe the same scope.
How to avoid it. Review attached add-ons at each anniversary. Modules bought for one project keep billing long after the project ends.
Minimum spend or platform fee
Stated on the pricing page: Enterprise requires 100+ user minimum
What triggers it. Triggered by being smaller than NordLayer prices for. It is why the 10 users basis above can understate the real entry cost for a small team.
How to avoid it. Negotiate a ramp. Vendors will often phase a minimum across year one rather than lose a growing account on day-one affordability.
Contract and commitment terms
Derived from the published tiers: NordLayer Lite is $80 a month billed monthly against $64 on annual commitment, a $576 difference over 36 months at 10 users.
What triggers it. Contract mechanics rather than a fee. They decide whether the $2,304 total is locked, and how expensive changing your mind in month 14 turns out to be.
How to avoid it. Read the auto-renewal and notice terms before the discount. A good rate on a contract you cannot leave is a worse deal than a fair rate on one you can.
Seat expansion
Derived from the published tiers: Five more users on Lite add $1,152 across 36 months, on top of the $2,304 above.
What triggers it. Fires when the team grows or splits into differently-priced groups. Mixed entitlements are how a single-rate assumption stops describing your invoice.
How to avoid it. Get expansion pricing fixed in the order form for the full term. Without it, seats added in month 20 are quoted at list.
How that compares across developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling
The median developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling tool we track charges $20 a month at its cheapest paid tier. Re-expressed on the same basis as the figure above, 10 users for 36 months, that median works out at $7,200.
NordLayer lands $4,896 below that figure, 68.0%, measured across 61 tracked tools. A gap either way is a question, not a verdict: cheaper often means fewer included seats or a thinner support tier, and the fee lines below are where that difference usually reappears.
What changes at enterprise scale
Everything above prices the self-serve ladder. Enterprise sits off that ladder, which means the $2,304 figure is a floor for a large deployment rather than an estimate of one.
Enterprise tier requires 100+ user minimum and custom annual contracts. Volume discounts apply at scale.
Frequently asked questions
How much does NordLayer cost over three years?
$2,304 on Lite at 10 users, billed annually, which is $64 a month held flat for 36 months. That figure covers the subscription only.
Does paying NordLayer annually save money?
Yes. Monthly billing costs $80 a month against $64 on annual commitment, a difference of $576 over 36 months at 10 users.
What does NordLayer charge for outside the plan price?
7 lines: feature gated to a higher tier, paid add-on or module, paid add-on or module, paid add-on or module and 3 more. Each one is broken down above with what triggers it and how to avoid it.
Could NordLayer cost more at renewal?
Possibly, and nothing on this page predicts it. If the rate held flat the three-year total would be $2,304; at a hypothetical 10% a year it would be $2,542.08. Cap the uplift in the contract and the question stops mattering.
What does NordLayer cost for a team of 25?
$5,760 over 36 months on Lite, billed annually. NordLayer charges per user, so that scales directly with headcount.
