Kinde true cost: the 36-month total

The short answer

What Kinde costs over 36 months

Every figure below is Kinde's own published rate, annualised and multiplied out over 36 months at 1 account. Where Kinde publishes no rate, the row says so instead of guessing.

Plan Charged List rate At 1 account 36 months
Free Free $0 $0/mo $0
Pro Flat, per month $25/mo $25/mo $900
Plus Flat, per month $75/mo $75/mo $2,700
Scale Flat, per month $250/mo $250/mo $9,000

Renewal sensitivity: three scenarios, not a forecast

Nobody knows what Kinde charges in 2029. The table below is arithmetic on a rate you choose, not a prediction: it compounds the year-one total forward at 0%, 5% and 10% so you can see how much of the 36-month figure is exposed to a renewal you have not negotiated yet.

If the rateYear 1Year 2Year 3Three-year total
Held flat $300 $300 $300 $900
5% a year $300 $315 $330.75 $945.75
10% a year $300 $330 $363 $993

Scenario arithmetic on Kinde's own published year-one figure. Uplift rates are illustrative inputs, not observed or predicted rates.

Each line, what triggers it, and how to avoid it

Minimum spend or platform fee

Stated on the pricing page: Payment platform fee: 0.5 to 0.7% on customer payments via Kinde

What triggers it. Triggered by being smaller than Kinde prices for. It is why the 1 account basis above can understate the real entry cost for a small team.

How to avoid it. Ask what happens if you shrink. Minimums that only ratchet upward turn a three-year commitment into a bet on your own headcount.

Paid add-on or module

Stated on the pricing page: Extra organizations: $0.43 to $0.50 per MAO

What triggers it. Fires on adoption, not on signature. Kinde prices the platform at $25 a month for 1 account and the pieces separately, which is why quoted comparisons between tools so rarely describe the same scope.

How to avoid it. Bundle the add-ons into the initial negotiation. They are discounted far more readily at first signature than when added in year two as a mid-term upsell.

Third-party pass-through

Stated on the pricing page: SMS pass-through: $0.07 per message (own provider option)

What triggers it. Kinde is not the party charging you here; it is reselling or relaying someone else's rate. That rate can move without Kinde changing a single number on its own pricing page.

How to avoid it. Ask Kinde for the historical pass-through spend of a customer your size, not just the subscription. Then budget it as a separate line, because folding it into the $900 software figure hides the volatility.

Paid add-on or module

Stated on the pricing page: Extra environments: $3 to $5 each

What triggers it. A separately-priced module. It stacks on top of the plan rate for as long as you keep it, and on a per-unit add-on it also scales with the 1 account basis.

How to avoid it. Build the shortlist at like-for-like scope. Price Kinde with the add-ons you actually need against rivals with theirs, or the $900 comparison is measuring different products.

Usage and overage

Stated on the pricing page: M2M tokens overage: $0.0008 to $0.001 each

What triggers it. Usage, not people, drives this. That makes it the least predictable component of a three-year Kinde commitment and the one most worth instrumenting early.

How to avoid it. Instrument your real consumption during the trial and size the plan to the ninetieth-percentile month, not the average one. Overages priced at list are always worse than the tier that would have included them.

Trial and free-tier conversion

Derived from the published tiers: Kinde publishes a free tier. Every 36-month figure above starts from the month you leave it, not from signup.

What triggers it. The clock, not a decision, triggers this one. Kinde's free entry point ends on a date, and the $25 a month for 1 account rate starts whether or not anyone has finished evaluating.

How to avoid it. Diarise the conversion date and the cancellation route on day one. An unmanaged trial converting to Pro is the cheapest mistake on this page to prevent and the most common one to make.

Feature gated to a higher tier

Derived from the published tiers: Moving from Pro to Scale costs a further $8,100 over 36 months at 1 account, which is 10.0x the entry total.

What triggers it. Fires when a requirement lands that Pro does not cover. The jump is rarely proportional: you pay the higher tier across the whole 1 account basis to unlock one capability.

How to avoid it. Ask whether the capability can be bought as an add-on to Pro. Vendors frequently unbundle when the alternative is losing the deal.

How that compares across developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling

The median developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling tool we track charges $20 a month at its cheapest paid tier. Re-expressed on the same basis as the figure above, 1 account for 36 months, that median works out at $720.

Kinde lands $180 above that figure, 25.0%, measured across 61 tracked tools. A gap either way is a question, not a verdict: cheaper often means fewer included seats or a thinner support tier, and the fee lines below are where that difference usually reappears.

What changes at enterprise scale

Everything above prices the self-serve ladder. Enterprise sits off that ladder, which means the $900 figure is a floor for a large deployment rather than an estimate of one.

No public enterprise tier listed; usage-based scaling is transparent within published tiers.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Kinde cost over three years?

$900 on Pro at 1 account, billed annually, which is $25 a month held flat for 36 months. That figure covers the subscription only.

Does paying Kinde annually save money?

Kinde publishes the same effective rate either way on Pro, so there is no prepay discount to capture. Keep the monthly option unless the vendor offers something for the commitment.

What does Kinde charge for outside the plan price?

7 lines: minimum spend or platform fee, paid add-on or module, third-party pass-through, paid add-on or module and 3 more. Each one is broken down above with what triggers it and how to avoid it.

Could Kinde cost more at renewal?

Possibly, and nothing on this page predicts it. If the rate held flat the three-year total would be $900; at a hypothetical 10% a year it would be $993. Cap the uplift in the contract and the question stops mattering.

Is Kinde expensive for developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling?

Over 36 months it lands $180 above the $720 category median, measured across 61 tracked tools on the same basis.
