Hund true cost: the 36-month total

The short answer

Hund costs $1,044 over 36 months on Starter at 1 account, billed annually, before 4 cost lines that sit outside the plan price.

What Hund costs over 36 months

Every figure below is Hund's own published rate, annualised and multiplied out over 36 months at 1 account. Where Hund publishes no rate, the row says so instead of guessing.

Plan Charged List rate At 1 account 36 months
Starter Flat, per month $29/mo $29/mo $1,044
Growth Flat, per month $50/mo $50/mo $1,800
Scale Flat, per month $80/mo $80/mo $2,880

Renewal sensitivity: three scenarios, not a forecast

Nobody knows what Hund charges in 2029. The table below is arithmetic on a rate you choose, not a prediction: it compounds the year-one total forward at 0%, 5% and 10% so you can see how much of the 36-month figure is exposed to a renewal you have not negotiated yet.

If the rateYear 1Year 2Year 3Three-year total
Held flat $348 $348 $348 $1,044
5% a year $348 $365.40 $383.67 $1,097.07
10% a year $348 $382.80 $421.08 $1,151.88

Scenario arithmetic on Hund's own published year-one figure. Uplift rates are illustrative inputs, not observed or predicted rates.

Each line, what triggers it, and how to avoid it

Usage and overage

Stated on the pricing page: Managed email subscribers: free up to 250, $0.030/sub next 750, $0.025/sub above 1,000.

What triggers it. Fires when consumption crosses the included limit. This is the line that decouples your Hund bill from your headcount, and it can grow while your team does not.

How to avoid it. Instrument your real consumption during the trial and size the plan to the ninetieth-percentile month, not the average one. Overages priced at list are always worse than the tier that would have included them.

Usage and overage

Stated on the pricing page: Extra monitoring regions beyond the three free ones cost extra per component.

What triggers it. Usage, not people, drives this. That makes it the least predictable component of a three-year Hund commitment and the one most worth instrumenting early.

How to avoid it. Negotiate committed-volume pricing if consumption is predictable at all. Over 36 months, a pre-committed rate beats list overage by a wide margin.

Feature gated to a higher tier

Stated on the pricing page: 30-second high-frequency checks require tier upgrade.

What triggers it. Fires when a requirement lands that Starter does not cover. The jump is rarely proportional: you pay the higher tier across the whole 1 account basis to unlock one capability.

How to avoid it. Test the gated feature during evaluation rather than trusting the comparison table. Capability names travel further than capabilities do.

Feature gated to a higher tier

Stated on the pricing page: Embeddable pages and privacy controls are premium-only.

What triggers it. A gate rather than a fee. It costs nothing until the day it costs a full tier upgrade, and it invalidates the $1,044 figure above the moment it does.

How to avoid it. Ask whether the capability can be bought as an add-on to Starter. Vendors frequently unbundle when the alternative is losing the deal.

How that compares across observability, monitoring, and incident response

The median observability, monitoring, and incident response tool we track charges $25 a month at its cheapest paid tier. Re-expressed on the same basis as the figure above, 1 account for 36 months, that median works out at $900.

Hund lands $144 above that figure, 16.0%, measured across 17 tracked tools. A gap either way is a question, not a verdict: cheaper often means fewer included seats or a thinner support tier, and the fee lines below are where that difference usually reappears.

What changes at enterprise scale

Everything above prices the self-serve ladder. Enterprise sits off that ladder, which means the $1,044 figure is a floor for a large deployment rather than an estimate of one.

Enterprise and Sovereign Enterprise (ITAR, FedRAMP, DoD) handled via custom contracts with isolated infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Hund cost over three years?

$1,044 on Starter at 1 account, billed annually, which is $29 a month held flat for 36 months. That figure covers the subscription only.

Does paying Hund annually save money?

Hund publishes the same effective rate either way on Starter, so there is no prepay discount to capture. Keep the monthly option unless the vendor offers something for the commitment.

What does Hund charge for outside the plan price?

4 lines: usage and overage, usage and overage, feature gated to a higher tier, feature gated to a higher tier. Each one is broken down above with what triggers it and how to avoid it.

Could Hund cost more at renewal?

Possibly, and nothing on this page predicts it. If the rate held flat the three-year total would be $1,044; at a hypothetical 10% a year it would be $1,151.88. Cap the uplift in the contract and the question stops mattering.

Is Hund expensive for observability, monitoring, and incident response?

Over 36 months it lands $144 above the $900 category median, measured across 17 tracked tools on the same basis.
