GrowthBook true cost: the 36-month total
GrowthBook costs $7,200 over 36 months on Pro Cloud (5 seats) at 1 account, billed annually, before 6 cost lines that sit outside the plan price.
What GrowthBook costs over 36 months
Every figure below is GrowthBook's own published rate, annualised and multiplied out over 36 months at 1 account. Where GrowthBook publishes no rate, the row says so instead of guessing.
1 tier is sales-led (Enterprise), so it carries no figure here.
Renewal sensitivity: three scenarios, not a forecast
Nobody knows what GrowthBook charges in 2029. The table below is arithmetic on a rate you choose, not a prediction: it compounds the year-one total forward at 0%, 5% and 10% so you can see how much of the 36-month figure is exposed to a renewal you have not negotiated yet.
Scenario arithmetic on GrowthBook's own published year-one figure. Uplift rates are illustrative inputs, not observed or predicted rates.
What sits outside the GrowthBook list price
6 lines, sorted by when in the contract lifecycle they land. Lines marked as derived are arithmetic on GrowthBook's own tier table rather than vendor prose.
Each line, what triggers it, and how to avoid it
Usage and overage
Stated on the pricing page: CDN request overage $10 per million above 2M on Pro
What triggers it. Usage, not people, drives this. That makes it the least predictable component of a three-year GrowthBook commitment and the one most worth instrumenting early.
How to avoid it. Instrument your real consumption during the trial and size the plan to the ninetieth-percentile month, not the average one. Overages priced at list are always worse than the tier that would have included them.
Infrastructure and hosting
Stated on the pricing page: Bandwidth overage $1/GB above 20GB on Pro
What triggers it. Triggered by data volume and deployment shape. Choosing self-hosted or a dedicated region moves this from a rounding error to a material share of the term cost.
How to avoid it. Model it at year-3 data volume, not today's. Ask GrowthBook what a customer with three years of history in open-source feature flags and experimentation typically stores, then price that. The $7,200 plan figure assumes none of it.
Usage and overage
Stated on the pricing page: Warehouse events overage $0.03 per 1K events above 2M
What triggers it. Fires when consumption crosses the included limit. This is the line that decouples your GrowthBook bill from your headcount, and it can grow while your team does not.
How to avoid it. Ask GrowthBook for hard caps or alerting rather than silent overage billing. A limit that stops work is recoverable; an invoice you did not authorise is not.
Unpublished pricing
Derived from the published tiers: 1 of 5 GrowthBook tiers publish no price (Enterprise). No total on this page includes them.
What triggers it. Triggered by nothing you do. This is simply a number GrowthBook does not publish. Every unpublished component is a hole in the $7,200 figure, which is built only from rates the vendor states.
How to avoid it. Treat the unpublished element as a risk line in the business case with an explicit assumed value. A named assumption can be challenged; a gap cannot.
Trial and free-tier conversion
Derived from the published tiers: GrowthBook publishes a free tier. Every 36-month figure above starts from the month you leave it, not from signup.
What triggers it. Fires when free stops being free. Worth mapping precisely, because free-tier limits are where open-source feature flags and experimentation tools do most of their upgrade engineering.
How to avoid it. Diarise the conversion date and the cancellation route on day one. An unmanaged trial converting to Pro Cloud (5 seats) is the cheapest mistake on this page to prevent and the most common one to make.
Feature gated to a higher tier
Derived from the published tiers: Moving from Pro Cloud (5 seats) to Pro Cloud (10 seats) costs a further $7,200 over 36 months at 1 account, which is 2.0x the entry total.
What triggers it. A gate rather than a fee. It costs nothing until the day it costs a full tier upgrade, and it invalidates the $7,200 figure above the moment it does.
How to avoid it. Test the gated feature during evaluation rather than trusting the comparison table. Capability names travel further than capabilities do.
How that compares across developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling
The median developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling tool we track charges $20 a month at its cheapest paid tier. Re-expressed on the same basis as the figure above, 1 account for 36 months, that median works out at $720.
GrowthBook lands $6,480 above that figure, 900.0%, measured across 61 tracked tools. A gap either way is a question, not a verdict: cheaper often means fewer included seats or a thinner support tier, and the fee lines below are where that difference usually reappears.
What changes at enterprise scale
Everything above prices the self-serve ladder. Enterprise sits off that ladder, which means the $7,200 figure is a floor for a large deployment rather than an estimate of one.
Enterprise pricing custom; migration incentive waives charges until your current feature flag contract renews, up to one year.
Frequently asked questions
How much does GrowthBook cost over three years?
$7,200 on Pro Cloud (5 seats) at 1 account, billed annually, which is $200 a month held flat for 36 months. That figure covers the subscription only.
Does paying GrowthBook annually save money?
GrowthBook publishes the same effective rate either way on Pro Cloud (5 seats), so there is no prepay discount to capture. Keep the monthly option unless the vendor offers something for the commitment.
What does GrowthBook charge for outside the plan price?
6 lines: usage and overage, infrastructure and hosting, usage and overage, unpublished pricing and 2 more. Each one is broken down above with what triggers it and how to avoid it.
Could GrowthBook cost more at renewal?
Possibly, and nothing on this page predicts it. If the rate held flat the three-year total would be $7,200; at a hypothetical 10% a year it would be $7,944. Cap the uplift in the contract and the question stops mattering.
Is GrowthBook expensive for developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling?
Over 36 months it lands $6,480 above the $720 category median, measured across 61 tracked tools on the same basis.
