What Ghost costs over 36 months

Every figure below is Ghost's own published rate, annualised and multiplied out over 36 months at 1 account. Where Ghost publishes no rate, the row says so instead of guessing.

Plan Charged List rate At 1 account 36 months
Starter Flat, per month $18/mo $18/mo $648
Publisher Flat, per month $29/mo $29/mo $1,044
Business Flat, per month $199/mo $199/mo $7,164

Renewal sensitivity: three scenarios, not a forecast

Nobody knows what Ghost charges in 2029. The table below is arithmetic on a rate you choose, not a prediction: it compounds the year-one total forward at 0%, 5% and 10% so you can see how much of the 36-month figure is exposed to a renewal you have not negotiated yet.

If the rateYear 1Year 2Year 3Three-year total
Held flat $216 $216 $216 $648
5% a year $216 $226.80 $238.14 $680.94
10% a year $216 $237.60 $261.36 $714.96

Scenario arithmetic on Ghost's own published year-one figure. Uplift rates are illustrative inputs, not observed or predicted rates.

What sits outside the Ghost list price

3 lines, sorted by when in the contract lifecycle they land. Lines marked as derived are arithmetic on Ghost's own tier table rather than vendor prose.

Unpublished pricing Only on a quote $50 Stated by the vendor
Feature gated to a higher tier When you need the feature $50 Stated by the vendor

Each line, what triggers it, and how to avoid it

Unpublished pricing

Stated on the pricing page: Custom SSL certificate add-on costs $50 per month on Business and up

What triggers it. Triggered by nothing you do. This is simply a number Ghost does not publish. Every unpublished component is a hole in the $648 figure, which is built only from rates the vendor states.

How to avoid it. Ask for it in writing, itemised, before shortlisting. A vendor that will not put a number on a component at evaluation stage rarely gets more forthcoming after signature.

Feature gated to a higher tier

Stated on the pricing page: Subdirectory install add-on costs $50 per month on Business only

What triggers it. A gate rather than a fee. It costs nothing until the day it costs a full tier upgrade, and it invalidates the $648 figure above the moment it does.

How to avoid it. List every gated capability you will plausibly need in three years, then price Ghost at that tier from the start. Comparing entry tiers you will not stay on is how a $648 plan becomes a much larger invoice.

Tax, FX and payment processing

Stated on the pricing page: Payment processor fees apply separately to paid subscriptions

What triggers it. A charge Ghost collects but does not set. It moves with your billing entity and your card, which is why two teams on the same Starter plan can see different totals.

How to avoid it. Ask for a tax-inclusive quote in your own currency. Cross-border billing on a three-year term is where FX drift quietly eats a discount you negotiated once.

How that compares across marketing automation and email platforms

The median marketing automation and email platforms tool we track charges $15 a month at its cheapest paid tier. Re-expressed on the same basis as the figure above, 1 account for 36 months, that median works out at $540.

Ghost lands $108 above that figure, 20.0%, measured across 22 tracked tools. A gap either way is a question, not a verdict: cheaper often means fewer included seats or a thinner support tier, and the fee lines below are where that difference usually reappears.

What changes at enterprise scale

Everything above prices the self-serve ladder. Enterprise sits off that ladder, which means the $648 figure is a floor for a large deployment rather than an estimate of one.

Custom plan unlocks unlimited members, staff users, newsletters, and 1gb file uploads under a sales-quoted rate.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Ghost cost over three years?

$648 on Starter at 1 account, billed annually, which is $18 a month held flat for 36 months. That figure covers the subscription only.

Does paying Ghost annually save money?

Ghost publishes the same effective rate either way on Starter, so there is no prepay discount to capture. Keep the monthly option unless the vendor offers something for the commitment.

What does Ghost charge for outside the plan price?

3 lines: unpublished pricing, feature gated to a higher tier, tax, fx and payment processing. Each one is broken down above with what triggers it and how to avoid it.

Could Ghost cost more at renewal?

Possibly, and nothing on this page predicts it. If the rate held flat the three-year total would be $648; at a hypothetical 10% a year it would be $714.96. Cap the uplift in the contract and the question stops mattering.

Is Ghost expensive for marketing automation and email platforms?

Over 36 months it lands $108 above the $540 category median, measured across 22 tracked tools on the same basis.
