What AWS Amplify costs over 36 months

Every figure below is AWS Amplify's own published rate, annualised and multiplied out over 36 months at 1 account. Where AWS Amplify publishes no rate, the row says so instead of guessing.

Plan Charged List rate At 1 account 36 months
Standard Build Flat, per month $8/mo $8/mo $288
Hosting Flat, per month $5/mo $5/mo $180
SSR App Flat, per month $66/mo $66/mo $2,376

Renewal sensitivity: three scenarios, not a forecast

Nobody knows what AWS Amplify charges in 2029. The table below is arithmetic on a rate you choose, not a prediction: it compounds the year-one total forward at 0%, 5% and 10% so you can see how much of the 36-month figure is exposed to a renewal you have not negotiated yet.

If the rateYear 1Year 2Year 3Three-year total
Held flat $60 $60 $60 $180
5% a year $60 $63 $66.15 $189.15
10% a year $60 $66 $72.60 $198.60

Scenario arithmetic on AWS Amplify's own published year-one figure. Uplift rates are illustrative inputs, not observed or predicted rates.

Each line, what triggers it, and how to avoid it

Infrastructure and hosting

Stated on the pricing page: Server-side rendering charged at $0.30 per million requests + $0.20/hr per GB-hr after free tier.

What triggers it. The infrastructure bill sitting under the Hosting plan. It is usage-shaped, which means it compounds quietly across 36 months rather than arriving as one visible increase.

How to avoid it. Model it at year-3 data volume, not today's. Ask AWS Amplify what a customer with three years of history in frontend hosting typically stores, then price that. The $180 plan figure assumes none of it.

Paid add-on or module

Stated on the pricing page: Web Application Firewall is $15/mo per app on top of WAF rule costs.

What triggers it. Fires on adoption, not on signature. AWS Amplify prices the platform at $5 a month for 1 account and the pieces separately, which is why quoted comparisons between tools so rarely describe the same scope.

How to avoid it. Bundle the add-ons into the initial negotiation. They are discounted far more readily at first signature than when added in year two as a mid-term upsell.

Third-party pass-through

Stated on the pricing page: Backend services (Cognito, AppSync, DynamoDB, Lambda, S3) priced separately under AWS.

What triggers it. AWS Amplify is not the party charging you here; it is reselling or relaying someone else's rate. That rate can move without AWS Amplify changing a single number on its own pricing page.

How to avoid it. Ask AWS Amplify for the historical pass-through spend of a customer your size, not just the subscription. Then budget it as a separate line, because folding it into the $180 software figure hides the volatility.

Infrastructure and hosting

Stated on the pricing page: Storage charges keep accruing monthly until you delete the Amplify app.

What triggers it. Triggered by data volume and deployment shape. Choosing self-hosted or a dedicated region moves this from a rounding error to a material share of the term cost.

How to avoid it. Model it at year-3 data volume, not today's. Ask AWS Amplify what a customer with three years of history in frontend hosting typically stores, then price that. The $180 plan figure assumes none of it.

Feature gated to a higher tier

Derived from the published tiers: Moving from Hosting to SSR App costs a further $2,196 over 36 months at 1 account, which is 13.2x the entry total.

What triggers it. Triggered by needing one feature, not by growing. This is the mechanism that moves teams off Hosting: a single requirement that only exists further up the ladder, at a rate that applies to every unit you buy.

How to avoid it. List every gated capability you will plausibly need in three years, then price AWS Amplify at that tier from the start. Comparing entry tiers you will not stay on is how a $180 plan becomes a much larger invoice.

How that compares across developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling

The median developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling tool we track charges $20 a month at its cheapest paid tier. Re-expressed on the same basis as the figure above, 1 account for 36 months, that median works out at $720.

AWS Amplify lands $540 below that figure, 75.0%, measured across 61 tracked tools. A gap either way is a question, not a verdict: cheaper often means fewer included seats or a thinner support tier, and the fee lines below are where that difference usually reappears.

What changes at enterprise scale

Everything above prices the self-serve ladder. Enterprise sits off that ladder, which means the $180 figure is a floor for a large deployment rather than an estimate of one.

Up to $200 in Free Tier credit for new customers as of July 2025. Enterprise commits roll into AWS EDP/PPA agreements.

Frequently asked questions

How much does AWS Amplify cost over three years?

$180 on Hosting at 1 account, billed annually, which is $5 a month held flat for 36 months. That figure covers the subscription only.

Does paying AWS Amplify annually save money?

AWS Amplify publishes the same effective rate either way on Hosting, so there is no prepay discount to capture. Keep the monthly option unless the vendor offers something for the commitment.

What does AWS Amplify charge for outside the plan price?

5 lines: infrastructure and hosting, paid add-on or module, third-party pass-through, infrastructure and hosting and 1 more. Each one is broken down above with what triggers it and how to avoid it.

Could AWS Amplify cost more at renewal?

Possibly, and nothing on this page predicts it. If the rate held flat the three-year total would be $180; at a hypothetical 10% a year it would be $198.60. Cap the uplift in the contract and the question stops mattering.

Is AWS Amplify expensive for developer platforms, hosting, and dev tooling?

Over 36 months it lands $540 below the $720 category median, measured across 61 tracked tools on the same basis.
